Abstract

Although a lot has been written about the history of Tabriz, there are still things left unsaid. The date of this city is considered to be around the Parthian period. It seems that the first time was a settlement inside a fence and a strong rampart. Then, it was developed, and after Islam, it became one of the most prosperous and spacious cities on the Iranian plateau, with civil and urban planning activities. In the literary texts, hints of the history and nobles of different regions are not found in the historical texts. In addition to these, literary texts are a suitable platform for understanding the social conditions of cities because most of the historical texts were not devoid of political and governmental purposes. Tabriz is mentioned in Persian literary texts from the 4th century as a town in Azerbaijan and in the 5th century it was mentioned as a city. Native and non-native poets have often praised it and mentioned its prosperity. By examining the writings of writers, historians, and poets about Tabriz, from the fourth century to the first half of the eighth century, this article deals with the attitude of these people towards the city and its people and draws some historical points about the city of Tabriz through those materials.
