The emphasis of text-based literary theories on the exclusion of extratextual factors in the analysis of texts, while it is important and worthy of attention, does not make it unnecessary for researchers and critics of literary works to pay attention to some non-textual factors. Awareness of the time of a literary work's creation is one factor that can shed light on the undiscovered angles of a literary work and help critics understand its evolution and semantic dimensions. The claim of the present article is that although the critic's attention to the date of composition of a poem as an extratextual factor can clarify its hidden dimensions, critics of contemporary poetry should not always consider the time and place stated at the foot of the poem as definite and base their criticism and analysis, because a careful examination of some poetry collections and divans proves that poets, for some reasons, deliberately put a different date than the true date of their composition at the foot of their poems. Neglecting this point has often led to misunderstandings and misplaced inferences from the content of the work and finally unfair judgments about the poet and his life events. Citing examples of the change in the history of the poem and its consequences, the article concludes that in order to accurately understand the various aspects of a poem, first of all, the possibility of intentional change in the date of composition should not be ignored, and secondly, to achieve reassuring results, the content criticism of the work and the date of its composition should be used together.
