چکیده

The Iranian Constitutional Revolution, initiated to reform the Qajar government’s political structures, introduced the discourse of modernization as its central paradigm. This discourse not only influenced the Constitutional Revolution and Iranian society but was itself nourished and evolved by constitutional concepts. In less than two decades after political failure of Constitutionalism, the notion of modernization was reinvented and reached maturity in Sheikh Mohammad Khiabani’s uprising in Tabriz. During this era, literature, especially with a modernist approach, played a pivotal role in redefining and revitalizing the notions of freedom and reform. In this context, modern Persian poetry, the initial sparks of which were observed during this uprising, profoundly influenced Iran’s counterparty culture and literature. Shams Kasmaei, as the first female poet to introduce Nimai’s poetry to Iranian literature, stands as one of the most prominent figures of this movement. Drawing on the social and political notions of Khiabani’s uprising, her works substantially contributed to strengthening the literary modernism movement in Tabriz. This article, with an emphasis on Shams Kasmaei’s poetry, examines the mutual interaction between the Khiabani’s uprising and literature. It further demonstrates how the uprising paved the way for the growth and expansion of modernist literature, and how literature, in turn, reinforced the discourses of reformism and modernity within this historical movement.
